A very warm welcome to a new name but an old face on the staff of DSS – Dr Angela Stott. She was graced with this well-deserved title on 21 April 2009. Congratulations.
Now who would have thought that Grade 7 boys would be able to lay slabs? Well at DSS many things are possible! Between the chinwagging, resting, and the rest I’ll leave up to your imagination, they did (with the help of their teacher) get the slabs laid on 2 April. Ten out of ten for the initiative, boys.
The weather certainly co-operated at last for the Junior Cricket team after having cancelled a number of planned matches due to rain. And what a surprise, they convincingly won the one match they did play against Hermannsburg.
An award assembly is held at the close of each term at DSS where the achievements of the term are acknowledged and the learners receive their awards. This term was not different. Congratulations to the award winners.
I bet you did not know that it is predicted that South Africa’s water demand will exceed its supply by 2025! These are the kind of facts you would have seen displayed in the library during National Ground Water Week 17 – 23 March. Interesting books were also on display.
DSS first team played against Victory Christian Academy on 23 March. For a change there the weather was co-operative and we could complete the match. Victory Christian Academy won the game.
The computer centre opened its doors to local community teachers on 26 March in an effort to equip them with basic computer skills. Joining hands with CFT’s Help Your Local Schools project, a large number of teachers received training in the DSS computer centre.
The librarian, Mrs N Dickenson, not only promotes reading through chatting to avid readers and suggesting new books, but also through projects like these. The very used state of the books tell the entire story.
26 February saw the staff taking on the budding cricketers of the DSS 2nd team. Mist and bad light eventually stopped the game.
