If you’re in Grade 9, making sense of the lab and everything therein is called scientific progress. I’m sure the scientific experience of these learners has been extended and improved since 6 August.

Open Air Trigonometry
The Grade 10 Maths learners had to find out how high the ‘rocket’ flew using a hand-made inclinometer to measure the angle from the ground to the highest point of the rocket’s flight path.
Puppet Show
You only need a puppet show to keep those eyes riveted on one place. 29 July saw the Foundation Phase enjoying a puppet show in the Grade 3 class.
Term 2 Award Assembly
Each term closes with an Award Assembly in which term achievements are acknowledged and awarded. This term ended on 25 June with numerous winter sport awards which were awarded to sportsmen and women who performed during the winter sport season. Congratulations!
Everything keeps going right – Toyota
The Grade 12 Accounting learners visited the Toyota Finance Department on 22 June where they conducted a survey which will take them a step further into the real world to see how depreciation and asset disposal work in a company. They also learn how the company decides what vehicles to buy – the models and colour of the vehicles.
The Heart
The hearts of Jesse’s eight sons were exposed for all to see at the morning assembly on 18 June. You will remember how God sent Samuel to anoint one of Jesse’s sons as the future King of Israel. Each son had a heart that did not please God although they may have looked like candidates for royal positions. God told Samuel that He looks at the heart of the man and not the outward appearance. David was chosen because his heart was pure and pleasing to God.
The heart appearance is what God sees and not the outward appearance visible to man.
A Special Birthday
Some teachers have a special place in their learners’ hearts and Miss Amanda Engelbrecht is one of them. She celebrated her birthday on 9 June in style with her Grade 7 & 8 class. Congratulations!
The Incredible Dog Show
The Foundation and Intermediate Phase learners were treated to a wonderful display of doggy tricks at the Incredible Dog Show held at Hermannsburg Deutsche Schule on 8 June. Even though the weather was very cold, the dogs performed brilliantly. Lloyd Bristow, the owner and trainer of the four world-class performing dogs, explained the very special relationship that he has with his dogs. He taught the learners how to look after dogs and fulfill their needs. The star of the show, however, was the little poodle ‘Vibe’ and he certainly lived up to his name. Lloyd Bristow is planning to travel to Belgium with Vibe later in the year. Check out his webpage at www.dogzcool.com.
DSS Expo 2009
Physical Science and Life Sciences are subjects that receive a great deal of attention in the 2nd term. The Senior Phase learners must produce an expo project. It is assessed and forms part of their term mark. Other learners are also welcome to produce projects with the aim of entering the next stage of the competition which is the Eskom Durban Expo held on 31 July 2009.
This year there was a hall full of innovative and interesting projects all of which aimed to prove something. They were assessed by a panel of judges who selected a large number of projects to be displayed at the Durban Expo. Well done to all who took part!
