Term 1 was concluded at DSS with the quarterly Award Assembly held on 27 March. The assembly had an Easter flavour to it because Easter was just a day or two away. The proceedings were competently handled by Head Prefects, Linda Zondo and Anmarie Fouche. The Bible reading was presented by IP learners, Rina Geldenhuys and Hlengiwe Khumalo. We heard lovely singing items from the High school boys and the Foundation and Intermediate Phase learners.

Grade 9 Outing
On Friday 22 March, the Grade 9 class visited the Holocaust Centre in Durban. It was both busy and informative. Junior Hockey & Netball Coaching Clinic
The Junior Hockey and Netball players attended a coaching clinic held in Greytown on 16,17 March. They players were put through their paces by the professional hockey and netball players who coached them. The coaches learned many new tactics and basic skills which they could apply on home ground during weekly practices.
Wartburg Hockey & Netball Festival
DSS 1st Hockey and Netball teams took part on the Wartburg Hockey & Netball Festival held on 9 March at Wartburg Kirchdoff High School. The hockey girls played 4 tournament matches of which they lost 3 and won 1. The netball team played 3 matches and lost all 3. They gained much experience.

DSS Water Equilibrium Competition
Over twenty teams registered to participate in the 2013 Water Equilibrium. The first round consisted out of a quiz, where learners had to read a Case Study related to the competition and answer 8 multiple choice questions, based on the case study. All the teams that achieved a score of six out of eight or more then proceeded to the next stage.
Eight teams qualified to participate in the second round of the Water Equilibrium which took place on 18 February. The three top teams will compete in the regional competiton which will take place in Pmb on 20 April.

Cricket Umvoti 6-a-side Tournament
DSS u13 cricket team played in the Umvoti 6-a-side cricket tournament on 15/16 February 2013.DSS lost against Winterton and Highbury and won against New Hanover.The match against Kings was interrupted by rain.Saturday was rained out.
