On 26 March, the Foundation and Intermediate Phases attended a basic First Aid Course in the school hall which was presented by First Aid fundis, Charlotte Theron and Elfrieda Fleischman.
Despite the seriousness of the subject matter – bone breaks, CPR, snake bites and so on, the learners had a great deal of fun practising on their peers. They were taught how to put an injured arm into a sling using a simple bandage. They were given a method by which to carry an injured classmate who cannot walk. Prizes for correct answers and for listening carefully, were also handed out.
And at the end of it all, each learner received a Basic First Aid Course certificate which entitles him or her to administer basic first aid – if you are willing to take the risk!
