Fitness week means five days at school focused on physical, mental and spiritual fitness. The principal paid special attention to the heart aspect of fitness in Monday’s assembly on 27 January. Daily Bible reading, daily prayer and a pure conscience keeps learners spiritually fit and ready to face the challenges of school life.
Dr Jaegle, the Health & Well-being officer, has kept the school going with daily fitness challenges. On Monday, the learners and staff were challenged to drink 1 ½ litres of water and do 20 squats. Other daily challenges included no chips, candy or processed snacks for the day, no sugary drinks. At breaks the learners were encouraged to play active games using the equipment provided – skipping ropes, swingball, frisbee, hoola hoops and so on.
Classes visited the kitchen to create healthy snacks such as lentil salad, bran muffins and smoothies which have been rather popular.
The South African summer is really and truly upon us but the extra activity and fitness challenges have only brought smiles to faces.
