2ND AT NATIONAL BRIDGE BUILDING

The DSS Bridge Building team that won the Pmb Regional competition, took part in the national competition held at the Midrand Conference Centre on 23 August.

Alex Gideon, Caleb Schmunk and Owen Witthoft competed against 16 other regional teams from across the country. On Friday morning the teams were briefed on the bridge specifications and were allotted a number of hours to build. They were only allowed to use the tools provided by the organisers to build with, no personal tools were permitted.

The bridges were tested on Friday evening. The winning bridge carried a weight of 150.5kg and the team from Daniel Pienaar Technical High School took the honours. The bridge built by the DSS boys carried a weight of 128.2kg. It was given 9/10 for design, 10/10 for correctness and 9/10 for aesthetics. The weight of the bridge also played a role in the final score.

Congratulations to the boys on their achievement.
