DSS hosted two wildlife competitions because a record number of 68 quizzers entered!
The girls’ wildlife quiz took place on 19 October and the boys had theirs on the 24th. Both competitions were lively, fun and greatly enjoyed. The winning girls’ team achieved 80% of the total score which is a first for the wildlife quiz. The boys’ team, however, just beat the girls with 83% which is even better!
The environmental issues in the quiz considered plastic pollution on beaches and wildlife conservation in game reserves. It is important for the learners to realise that wildlife in South Africa in the future is not a given. They need to be aware of the possibility of losing it if it is not successfully managed and maintained. There was stiff competition for the 10 rounds of the quiz. The bag round caused great interest as learners analysed skins, skulls, snakes, invasive plants, insects and even a turtle.
Book prizes on wildlife topics were awarded to the winning teams: Kaat and Sofie Schobben, Mea Stegen and Adelle van der Walt; Joshua Combrink, Alexander Gideon, Caleb Schmunk and Aaron Vermaak
