The 2007 players exceeded all expectations. Having lost many of our star senior players from 2006, new talent had to be developed, setting the scene for adversity. But some courageous performances proved the opposite. Although we started the season with two losses, one against Stanger High and another against a traditionally strong Wartburg Kirchdof, we fought back with two draws, of which the 3-3 score against arch rivals Hermannsburg was particularly pleasing. In the past, Hermannsburg has always outplayed us, having beaten us 5-0 in 2006 and 6-2 in 2005!
Many of our players proved their mettle at the annual SACSSA Winter Sports competition in Estcourt and Richards Bay. Six players obtained KZN hockey colours: Ian Botes u15, Eric Hailstones u19, Nehemie Husslig u19, Jean-Pierre Geldenhuys u19, Bongani Gina u19, John-Ogilvy Meyer u13. We once again bid farewell to Grade 12 players, Jean-Pierre and Nehemie. But watch this space – next year will prove to be a season like none other!
