The regional WESSA competition took place in HMB on 15 May.
The competition asked questions concerning plants, birds, insects, rocks, animals, the sky and many more topics related to the environment and issues affecting wildlife. The atmosphere was fun and friendly and the two hours passed quite quickly. There was a packet and a bird call round including many interesting photographs. The teams had prepared very well, each member studying different aspects. Their preparation paid off. The B Team: Dan and Luke Bosman, Marc Walz and Pierre Stegen came 7th and received the prize for the most deserving team, meaning they made a good attempt at answering the questions and are encouraged to continue their interests in wildlife.
The DSS A Team: Melanie Engelbrecht, Rina Geldenhuys, Christine Knieper and Christine van Zyl came second, missing the first position by 1 point. They won certificates and book prizes. This team has therefore qualified for the national competition in August.
