It was a cold and tingling atmosphere in the Colin Web Ellis Hall of UKZN in Pietermaritzburg on 5 August.
Although it was the start of a long weekend, 15 eager teams from all over the country gathered to pit their wits against wildlife and environmental issues.
The DSS team; Esther Graf, Lisa Haux, Jasmin Husslig and Stefanie Wunderlich were quizzed through ten rounds of questions which were mainly general knowledge questions with an emphasis on plant life and environmental concerns. The audience were given opportunities to test their knowledge and they received sweet edibles for correct answers. The DSS team ended in 6th position with 48 points.
In addition to this all the teams were invited to the WESSA headquarters in the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve for fun and food the next morning.
We headed off to spend the night in Howick before participating in nature walks, water analysis in a river, an assault course and abseiling the following morning. The learners enjoyed themselves tremendously and returned home exhausted and sun-kissed.
