JUNIOR EISTEDDFOD

The Foundation and Intermediate Phase Eisteddfod turned out to be a vibrant celebration of creativity, memory skills and enjoyment.

26 March was the day to recite the poetry committed to memory over the past few weeks and despite having done it perfectly the night before, invariably a few words were lost and phrases missed during the performances!

Mr Mosquito, Elaine the complainer, I’d like to be a teabag, Looth tooth were some of the 74 poems that were recited. Kenn Nesbit’s poetry proved popular. All the presentations were evaluated by a panel of judges.

The following were the winning performers in each grade:
Eleanor Ndzeng-Ndong in Gr1 with I swept the dog by Kenn Nesbit
Lars Schmunk in Gr2 with Zebra question by Shel Silverstein
Line van Straten in Gr3 with Sick by Shel Silverstein
Mario Stegen in Gr4 with I bought a Maserati by Kenn Nesbit
Tim Combrink in Gr5 with Hottest food ever by Kenn Nesbit
Mila Vermaak in Gr6 with When the teacher’s back is turned by Kenn Nesbit

For many children this was a first and next time it should be amazing!
