68 DSS athletes qualified to represent KZNCSSA at the aQuellé National Athletics Championship on 23 and 24 September. That is 25% of the school enrolment!
The competition was stiff with more than 1000 of the top athletes from 9 different regions across South Africa and as far afield as Zimbabwe, participating in the event. Nevertheless, the DSS athletes quit themselves like men and won 48 medals in total, 17 Gold, 17, Silver and 14 Bronze.

The Interhouse Athletics Meeting took place on Thursday 4 August and Saturday 6 August, however, due to the severe cold experienced on Saturday we had to postpone the relay races to Thursday 11 August. After three sessions, Murray proved to be the winning house with a score of 1787. Morris came a very close second with a score of 1758.

Junior Victrix: Frieda Mout with 2448 ASA points
Junior Victor: Heinrich Marloth with 2272 ASA points

Senior Victrix: Shimei Meyer with 2155 ASA points
Senior Victor: Gabriel Maphanga with 2494 ASA points

In spite of the extremely challenging conditions especially on Saturday, DSS athletes equalled or set 21 new records.

Ndukende played a number of matches against DSS on 15 June in three winter sport codes namely netball, soccer and volleyball. The matches were challenging and some, rather tough.

KZNCSSA Zonal Winter Sports
The main purpose of the Zonal Winter Sport Trials is to select teams to represent Northern Natal at the KZNCSSA Winter Sports. 136 DSS athletes participated in the Northern Natal Winter Sports Trials in Esctourt on Saturday, 7 May. We participated in Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country in various age groups ranging from u11 to u19. Some parents also opted to enter their boys for Touch Rugby. The majority of the DSS athletes, 112 of them, qualified to represent Northern Natal at the Provincial Winter Sports in Richards Bay.

KZNCSSA Provincial Winter Sports
At the KZNCSSA Provincial Winter Sports Tournament held in Richards Bay from 26 to 28 May, Northern Natal(NN) competed against Northern Coastal (NC), South Durban(SD) and North Durban(ND). 50 DSS athletes (excluding Cross Country) were awarded KZNCSSA colours in various Winter Sports codes.
