Interhouse
The new field was ready for the Interhouse Athletics meeting held on 1 and ? October, albeit a bit sandy. Thank you to Mr Karl Heinz Duvel and those who so ably assisted him.

Highlights
With the track being on the sandy side one did not expect many new records to be set. However, 22 new records were set and one was equalled. 11 of those records were track records, most of them in the junior age categories. André Engelbrecht improved the Boys 14 years 200m record by almost a whole second to 26,6s on the sandy track! He also set a new record in the 100m event. Another impressive performance was that of Timothy Olsen who improved the Boys 15 years Javelin record by more than 3m to 46,33m. Mamazane Maphanga cut off almost 30 seconds from the Girls 19 years 3000m event with her time of 14:09.9. Both Jaco Coetzee and Joshua Lopes improved the Turbo Javelin records in their respective age groups by a number of metres.

bonbon.jpgLast year a few of our athletes participated in the SACSSA Cross Country competition for the first time. This competition coincides with the Zonal and Provincial Winter Sports on 10 May. This year we entered U17 and U19 athletes. 21 athletes participated at Zonal level in Estcourt of which 18 proceeded to represent Northern Natal in Richard's Bay at the provincials.

At the provincials on 14 June Mondli Mpungose and Mamazane Maphanga won gold; Elona Joosten, Louis Geldenhuys and Bonumusa Nkala won silver and Mxolisi Mthembu, Nontokozo Buthelezi and Nico Buthelezi won bronze.

10 athletes ran in the SACSSA National Cross Country Championship held in Newcastle. Mamazane Maphanga was appointed as one of the KZN team captains. We won the first three positions in the Men Youth race with Mondli Mpungose coming first, followed by Mxolisi Mthembu and Louis Geldenhuys. Thalente Ngcobo came sixth. Mamazane Maphanga came first in the Women Junior race and Nontokozo Buthelezi, third. In the Men Junior race we had three runners in the top four positions with Bonumusa in second place, Nico in third and Thobisani Zondi in fourth place. Siyethemba Zuma came sixth. KZN won all the age category awards.
We definitely have the talent at Domino Servite to do well in Cross Country as demonstrated at the national SACSSA level. Our hills are ideal for training.

cricket-fielding.jpgAfter having lost all our matches last year, the 2008 season seemed to be heading in the same direction after we were convincingly beaten by Greytown High School early in the first term. But the boys turned the tide and accomplished the improbable - they beat Hermannsburg Deutsche Schule by an astonishing nine wickets.

Zonals
Due to the fact that we did not have a sports field this year we only participated in the U19 age category in Soccer, Netball, Boys and Girls Hockey and Volleyball. 54 U19 players participated in the Northern Natal Zonal Winter Sports Trials in Estcourt on 10 May. 34 players were selected to represent Northern Natal at the KZNCSSA Provincial Winter Sports. Some represented Northern Natal in more than one code of sport.

Provincials
At the Provincials on 22-24 May the Northern Natal U19 teams did very well. The Girls U19 Hockey team won all their games and overshadowed the opposition as did the Boys U19 Hockey team. Eric Hailstones was true to his name and made sure that the hockey ball shot into the opposition goal at regular intervals. Wilhelm Meyer also did well and lost a tooth in the process.
